ARTEMA
In Matera, chef Eduardo Estatico creates fab culinary journeys that come to life among the city's oldest tuff caves

Inside Vetera Matera, a 5-star luxury hotel affiliated with Relais & Châteaux, ARTEMA is a fine-dining restaurant where chef Eduardo Estatico combines his love for Lucanian products with the ingenious Neapolitan flair to create culinary journeys that come to life among the city’s oldest tuff caves.
Crossing the internal courtyard, the heart of the Vetera Matera hotel, you reach the entrance to the ARTEMA restaurant, nestled in an underground room carved into the rock, where ancient stone meets contemporary elegance.
Opened in summer 2025, Mediterranean cuisine is expressed through the creative flair of chef Eduardo Estatico, obsessively attentive to every detail, from the table setting to the direction of the dining room service, to offer guests a complete and immersive gastronomic experience.

ARTEMA is a profound dialogue between land and sea, roots and horizons, from Naples, where the sea merges with the power of volcanoes and the authenticity of traditions, to Matera, with its stones and its silent lands.
His cuisine is born of passion and research, rich in history and tradition. A journey that begins in Naples, his birthplace, and that of his grandmothers, and nourishes Campania, traveling throughout Italy, including the 2-Michelin-starred La Peca in Lonigo, arriving in Capri and touching the Sorrento Peninsula, finally reaching the Sassi of Matera.

Two tasting itineraries are available: “Basilicata coast to coast”, which traverses the region between land and sea, combining flavors from Basilicata and the Murgia region, and “Traveling with Eduardo”, an intimate and personal journey, where each dish holds a memory of the chef.
From Porto Santo Spirito red shrimp tartare, sponsali panna cotta, Beluga caviar, smoked zabaglione, and tarragon to the Peperone Scoppiato risotto with Riserva Alberona, Senise peppers, fried meatballs, raisins, and pine nuts, Maratea capers, Ferrandina baked olives, and Filiano pecorino cheese, each dish showcases the fabulous local Lucanian products, such as the peperone crusco (crusco pepper) or the delicious bread from Matera and Altamura.

The wine list is rich in regional offer, offering guests a true experience of the local terroir, as well as a selection of the most renowned labels from the national and international winemaking heritage.
Eduardo Estatico chose the Vetera Matera project with great passion, a perfect marriage between the chef and the city, made of beauty, emotion, love for the land, and just the right amount of theatricality. It’s no coincidence that he’s a fan of Eduardo De Filippo’s theater, which makes every dinner at ARTEMA truly unforgettable.

Even better if preceded, at sunset, by an aperitif at the panoramic cocktail bar of the 5-star Vetera Matera. An experience you absolutely must have at least once in your life.
